Kamara the (old) New Radzinski?

Ran across this story today, with some interesting bits of information about Diomansy Kamara's previous Premiership spell. I've always been one to give players the benefit of the doubt when they have underperformed while being played out of position...Tomasz Radzinski's being played on the wing under Chris Coleman, Damarcus Beasley playing on the right for the US national team, and Carlos Bocanegra covering at left back all come to mind.

I'll be honest, I don't remember a whole lot about Kamara's 2004/05 and 2005/06 seasons, but if he was being played wide, there may be a very good reason for his poor performances. A quick glance over at Football-lineups.com confirms this - at WBA in 05/06, he was played almost exactly the same way Coleman played Radzinski on the left wing. While Radz did his best filling in for Luis Boa Morte, he was clearly not a natural winger.

I've been critical of the Kamara signing, but this piece makes me think about a change of heart. I still think we paid too much, but here's to hoping that Kamara will be a different type of player this time around...literally.
